Jerry Schaab (1948-2018)
We honour the memory of Jerry, my dad, by having 31 new experiences in 31 days! New recipe? Hike? Beer? Teach a class? Try wearing a kilt? Buy a plant? If you haven’t done it, try it!
Two days before my dad passed away, he turned 70 years old. As a gift, we donated $70 to charity in his name. We asked him, “which charity should we support in your memory?” He replied, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada. In 2014, Jerry walked Light The Night with family at Stanley Park. Today, we continue to raise money.
31 in 31 is a creation of Current Light, a group in Vancouver affected by blood cancers. We each bring our own style to the challenge. In my family, we try experiences which remind us of dad. Suit up for the BC Lions. Pick up litter along the highway. Donate blood. Each experience has a connection!
August is perfect for this challenge. It has 31 days, the weather is great, and it’s a perfect way to kickoff Blood Cancer Awareness Month in September.
