Scope
This statement applies to all websites operated by or on behalf of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC).
Information Use
LLSC collects information from users through several points on the web such as making a donation, ordering free materials, signing up for discussion boards and online event fundraising. The primary reason for LLSC to collect personal users' information is to provide personalization options for our web visitors, and to facilitate website features that require user input, whether this information is submitted directly by the site user, or collected by use of technologies such as cookies, as discussed below.
We may also use the information you provide to us to assist in the development of new programs, events, and services; to provide donation recipients with summary or aggregate information about our donations, programs and services; for internal research purposes.
Personal financial information in the form of a credit card number and expiration date is only collected if a site user wishes to make an online donation through LLSC online. This information is not maintained by LLSC when entered online. All online transactions are securely transmitted using SSL encryption.
User information submitted through LLSC websites is only used for the purposes for which it was collected.
Your provision of personal information to the LLSC means that you agree and consent that we may collect, use and disclose your personal information in accordance with our privacy policy. If you do not agree with these terms, please do not provide any personal information to the LLSC.
Advertising Policy
LLSC does not host any form of advertising from our websites or email communications.
Cookies
A cookie is a piece of data stored on the user's computer tied to information about that user. LLSC uses both session ID cookies and persistent cookies. For the session ID cookie, once users close the browser, the cookie simply terminates. A persistent cookie is a small text file stored on the user's hard drive for an extended period of time. Persistent cookies can be removed by following Internet browser help file directions.
The primary function of cookies for LLSC is to facilitate use of our websites by our users, and to enrich your online experience with us.
Persistent cookies are used to store the user's registration identification information from their basic registration, to facilitate their logging in to their personalized view of LLSC websites. Persistent cookies enable us to track and target the interests of our users to enhance their experience on our sites. See the Profile section.
Session cookies remember what office you are registered into or visiting online and who you are if you go from one LLSC website to another in a session. This way we are able to cut down on the number of logins required when you visit various LLSC websites during any given session.
If users reject cookies, they may still use our sites, and all the informational resources provided through them. Their registration-based personalization options and the capacity of their browser to keep track of what chapter they are visiting online as they go from one of our sites to another, is lost if the user rejects cookies.
LLSC uses a tracking utility provided by a 3rd party vendor to track usage of specific web pages and other resources provided through our website. The vendor sets cookies as a method for compiling site usage information but these cookies are only used to compile demographic models of site usage and are not tied to the user's personal information.

We may also need to disclose personal information where the LLSC believes, upon reasonable grounds, that it is necessary to protect the rights, privacy, safety or property of an identifiable person or group.
The LLSC shares your personal information only with employees and/or volunteers who require such information to establish, manage and maintain our relationship with you.
LLSC may need to share personal information with third parties in other limited circumstances. However, third parties retained by LLSC to provide such services are obligated to maintain the confidentiality of this information and are not authorized to use this information for any purpose other than providing those services. If you would like to opt-out of having LLSC share your name and postal address with third party organizations, please email info@bloodcancers.ca and type 'do not share' in the subject line of your email.
The LLSC keeps personal information only as long as it is required for the reasons it was collected. The length of time we retain information varies, depending on the program, service or event and the nature of the information. The retention period may extend beyond your relationship with us. When your personal information is no longer required for LLSC purposes, the information is either physically destroyed or deleted.

We will only provide these companies the information they need to deliver the service and prohibit them from using that information for any other purpose. These companies/organizations do not share or use personally identifiable information that may be obtained from these transactions for any secondary purposes.
